Consulting: A Different World

I would not say I have a vast array of knowledge as a consultant ... Collectively, I only have been about 8 years doing it. However, there are some things that I've seen that I think you are new to the profession are to be useful. We first must overcome the myths and realities associated with being a consultant know, we are being a good and important consultants will address the commandments.

Consulting: Myth and Reality

Myth

External consultants are.

Reality

Consultants are the only outsiders they have to do themselves. You do not have an external person, for lunch with colleagues ... Go talk to them and befriend them. Just so you know where to draw the line.

Myth

Consultants to answer to anyone and that they can.

Reality

Consultant to answer not only customers but the company they represent.

Myth

Consultants come and go as they please.

Reality

Consultants come and go as they please, as long as the customer and out of doors shoes are sick can.

Consultants for their hours like everyone else, are expected to work, you have been given more freedom ... Just do not abuse it.

Myth

Consultants to make lots of money for doing nothing.

Reality

More is expected of consultants. Consultants generally come in and get a job, quickly and efficiently, customer standards even though they may not be readily apparent to the consultants using is called.

Consultant is a short learning curve. Ask questions, because customers take the time not an employee but a consultant will be extended on the same train.

Myth

Consultants not only do they not have given more.

Reality

As a consultant, you work is completed by clients.

Consultants do what they are assigned. If you find yourself short on action and more customers ask for, it will make you more valuable in the eyes of customers.

Myth

Consultant to know everything there is to know about their specialty should.

Reality

Stephen Hawking who we are?

Consultants know what they know, just as anyone does. Anyone who thinks they have a book of any technical assistance or just cheating himself or herself and set herself up for failure do not have documents.

In a nutshell ... Read a book ... It'll kill you.

Advisory commands

1. Just do it (no one "why" ny consultant likes)
2. Customers like the kind of customer ... Why do things a certain way is not to show a negative attitude about (1 view orders and 5)
3. Customer's time is valuable to them, do not waste it.
4. Show up! Do not leave your customer hanging by not giving him / her know you are coming to work until the last minute ... It is not polite and you will lose value in the future are going for them.
5. Do not hate ... Suggest. If you think that customers order it ... Can not complain about it, another way to suggest and discuss it with them ... You never know ... Method that is where you can build contract.
6. Do not make promises you can not keep. A wise man once said, "It may very well be silent and considered a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" --- truer words were never spoken. To remove it stopped making a decision until you have a suggestion of a way to check it possible or not possible opportunity to make better. It will make you look foolish.
7. Document everything. As a service to our customers and ourselves as a service. To what was said (in detail)? Who asked for it? For what purpose?
8. Ask questions. If you are not sure about something, ask questions until you are being asked of you are sure of. Customers, whether intentionally or not easy to be dishonest consultants may be excuses. Cover yourself. (See Commandment 7)
9. What is your client's site being informed as to hold office. Not help you out of office in a bad spot if they can not know about it. Make aware the company as soon as possible.
10. Always try your best work for the customer. It's better when you came to a worse situation than after a customer in a better position to leave you.
